Pecan Storage Tips

When you have pecans as delicious as Priester's, you'll do anything you can to make them last as long as possible! Refrigerating pecans is the best way to retain their fresh color, aroma, and flavor over a long period of time. Plus, you don't have to share any with unwanted critters!

Now that you know where to store pecans, you're probably wondering how to store them. Lucky for you, Priester's Pecans makes storage easy because they can be refrigerated or frozen in the bags they're packaged in. But, if you're a true nut lover, you may have already torn open your bag the second they arrived in the mail. In that case, airtight containers, such as jars with lids, are also a perfect way to store them in the fridge or freezer!

Does freezing your pecans sound strange to you? Well, put those fears to rest because pecans suffer absolutely no damage from freezing. They can even stay good for weeks after thawing if kept cold. And the best part is... drumroll please.... the unused thawed pecans may be refrozen again and again and still taste good as new!

Unfortunately for everyone, pecans are at risk of becoming rancid if stored improperly or for too long. If you're worried that yours have gone bad, check if they have a strange odor, oily appearance, or odd taste.

See the table below for approximate storage times based on the location and temperature at which the pecans are stored:
